Project Celebration began as a group of mothers concerned about teenage alcohol abuse and an increasing use of drugs in the 1980's. They addressed the issue by implementing classroom drug education and promoting drug and alcohol-free parties beginning at the fifth grade level and continuing through High School.
Awareness of the reasons kids use drugs and alcohol forced the group to become involved in the social changes that helped the community shift attitudes. "Safe and Drug Free Schools and Communities" and the "Children's Trust Fund" were two initial funders for projects and programs addressing the effect of chemical abuse and family violence.
Project Celebration now has a variety of programs geared toward helping families by providing services and links to services in communities throughout Region 8 in Louisiana.
